It's No Wonder Selected Among Power Read 25 List By Unerased Black Women Speak Initiative

For Unerased founder Gwen McKinney, Power Read 25 began with a simple conviction.

When the National Endowment for the Arts launched its “Big Read 250,” a literary campaign highlighting 24 titles with the aim of celebrating America’s independence, not a single Black woman author was listed! 

So, McKinney, who launched the first Black woman-owned communications firm dedicated to race-centered national policy, decided to do something about it. She founded Unerased | Black Women Speak, a reading initiative centering around Black women’s stories as a means to amplify our voices. 

It’s No Wonder: The Life and Times of Motown’s Legendary Songwriter Sylvia Moy is amongst the books selected for Power Read 25, the inaugural national civic engagement and reading initiative from Unerased | Black Women Speak.

The 25 biographies chosen to illuminate the lives and legacies of Black women were written by female authors who’ve dared to make the impossible possible by having their subjects seen and heard. 

With the exception of Nelson George, the more than 50 Motown books documented throughout the years about the history of the legendary record label and/or its artists have all been written by White men or women. Dr. Christian represents the first Black female author/professional journalist to pen a definitive biography about Moy, another female pioneer at Hitsville U.S.A.

It's No Wonder is available everywhere books are sold.
