Britain's MOJO Magazine Gives Four-Star Rating to It's No Wonder

3/19/2026

MOJO, dubbed as "the world's finest music magazine," featured It's No Wonder: The Life and Times of Motown's Legendary Songwriter Sylvia Moy in a recent book review section. The popular magazine, which is published in the United Kingdom, gave the much-lauded biography a 4-star rating.

Motown's soul-infused/pop sound had a global impact on the world, especially in the UK.
With the Detroit-based label's success there, this helped to shape British pop and R&B with groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones being influenced by the Motown sound. It's no secret that the rise of Northern Soul, which dealt with British dance and record-collecting culture built around rare American soul singles, also was influenced by Hitsville U.S.A.

The Eastern Daily Press is a regional paper in the east of England. Motown music didn't just touch those in the United States. The label's soul-infused/pop sound had a global impact on the world, especially in the UK.

With the Detroit-based label's success there, this helped to shape British pop and R&B with groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones being influenced by the Motown sound. As a matter of fact, the rise of Northern Soul, which dealt with British dance and record-collecting culture built around rare American soul singles, also was influenced by Motown.

Media titan Eric Alper featured It’s No Wonder: The Life and Times of Motown’s Legendary Songwriter Sylvia Moy in an article on his popular outlet, appropriately titled That Eric Alper.

To read the full article, go to: https://www.thatericalper.com/2026/02/09/new-biography-chronicles-motown-pioneer-sylvia-moys-groundbreaking-songwriting-career/

Alper, formerly director of media relations for eOne Music Canada, is at the forefront of the Canadian entertainment industry and well known on social media for his enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge of all things music. Some of his past and present clients include Ringo Starr, Carole King, Barry Manilow, Ray Charles, Jerry Garcia, Snoop Dogg, Little Big Town, Smashing Pumpkins, Public Enemy, Ziggy Marley, Duran Duran, The Wiggles, Sesame Street and many others.

I was also interviewed by the veteran Canadian publicist as an upcoming guest on his That Eric Alper Show SiriusXM, Channel 167 on the Canada Talks Channel. It was a delightful conversation. His passion and love for music mirrored my own. I believe that music is God’s gift to us all, because it blesses us in many ways. During the pandemic, a time of severe isolation and social distancing for everyone, music was my salvation. And along the way, it helped me meet Sylvia Moy on IG via the page @blackstory1619 on September 12, 2021.

It’s No Wonder: The Life and Times of Motown’s Legendary Songwriter Sylvia Moy was named among a group of books written by women about women with historical value that should be on your radar.

The complete listing appears in Caribbean Life News and was written by Terri Schlichenmeyer, owner of The Bookworm Sez where she writes for more than 200 newspapers and magazines around the U.S. and Canada.

Some of the world’s largest concentrations of Caribbean people call New York City home, and Caribbean Life is their source for local news, commentary, politics, sports, arts, and culture. The tabloid with the unmistakable yellow-and-orange front page is now in its third decade of informing Caribbean New Yorkers about what’s going on back home and in their adopted city.

To read the full article, go to: Put women into the historical record this month with these books – Caribbean Life

Fun Fact: Jamilah Lemieux's soon-to-be released book, Black. Single. Mother: Real Life Tales of Longing and Belonging (3/10), is featured, too. Once upon a time the Chicago native and I worked together at Ebony magazine.

Though this is formally recognized as Women’s History Month and National Book Reading Month, please understand and know that both are forever!
